Event Description

The Santa Rosa First Peoples Community, formerly known as the Santa Rosa Carib Community, continues to promote and support the recovery and preservation of our heritage, including the  cultural goods and services and traditional expressions of our First Nation Peoples. This year, we celebrate the 15th year of First Peoples Heritage Week, from 11 – 17th October.2015.

A significant component of the Heritage Week of   celebration is the invitation to First Peoples delegates from Guyana, Suriname, Belize, Venezuela, Dominica, St Vincent, Puerto Rico, Nicaragua. Honduras, Ecuador, Canada and the USA, to participate in our various activities on a daily basis.

The Theme for this year is “Exploring Restitution and Reparatory Justice”, as a response to the CARICOM Mandate to seek Reparations for Native Genocide and African Enslavement.  One of the major events within the week is the hosting of a Symposium on Restitution for Native Genocide, to be held 12-13 October, 2015.

It is wonderful to see that the people of the Indigenous communities of Trinidad and Tobago are hosting ths important region-wide gathering. In behalf of the United Confederation of Taino People and the Caney Indigenous Spiritual Circle I want to express my prayers for the success of this endeavor.
