During the early 1600's two European ships loaded with African people sank near the coast of Saint Vincent island (Yurumein). The African and the native indian (Arawac-Carib) intermarried and gave birth to the Garifuna people.
If I recall well the year was 1635 two spanish ships loaded with nigerian - first the nigerian and the kalinago fought but soon they began to interact in better ways and intermarried .This was the begining of the Garifuna or black caribs - those resisted the british for quite sometimes before being sent to Rotean Island ( I'm not sure about spelling) (number 4300+-) One of the ship was confiscated by the spanish and the Garifuna went to Trujillo- very interresting story, because those black Caribs owned land in St Vincent and had european servant...
