The Cordon is a modern-day derivative of the ancient areito dance...Please check out this video I made back in  2014 about this on-going tradition. The most important researche about the connection between the modern-day Cordon dance and the ancient areito dance tradition was carried out by the Cuban anthropologist Jose Antonio Garcia Molina. He wrote the book Huella Vivas del Indocubano. It describes the parallels between the ancient areito and the Cordon.
