Profile Information

About Me:
I am a student at the University Of Tromsø in Norway. I am studying to receive my Master's Degree in Indigenous Studies in 2010.
Born in Belize to Zoilo Blanco of Corozal, Belize, and Francisca Noguera Blanco of Belize, I completed High School in Belize and recieved an A.A Degree from Los Angeles City College in social Studies, a B.A. from California State University Dominguez Hills in History and Philosophy, plus a Teaching credential, and an M.A. Degree in Religion from Hartford Seminary.
My parents Zoila and Francisca Blanco were active in the preservation of the Garifuna Culture in Los Angeles, California where they lived for forty years before passing on. They instilled in us the value of our ethnicity, and a tenacious pride in being a people of freedom.
I am married to Herbert Rylander, and we have one daughter.
When the opportunity came to reinvent myself and pursue further study in Europe, I grabbed at the opportunity. Now in my studies in Tromsø, Norway, I am delving into the history, linguistics, socio-economics politics of the Garifunas in Central America. I'll be doing my field work this summer in Honduras, writing my thesis in Fall '09 and Spring '10, and receiving my M.A. Degree in May 2010. Perhaps, a PhD is in the offing. We'll see.
Because of an assignment on researching the current leadership among the Garifunas, I was able to discover your website on the internet. I pray that our interacting will be profitable reciprocally.
