I'm Puerto Rican living in NYC. My father aways told me that my family is of indigenous decent (Taino). I remember once that I witness my father in a arguement, he was so passionate about his genealogy that he went off on a claim that he belong rightfully not only to PUERTO RICO but to the entire continent including the United States. He went into a rant among Itatian business owners who provoke his reponse that his proof is in his blood. Yelling at them that he's Indian and that if any body present here who thinks they own any heritage to this country it would only be him. I remember that as if it were only yesterday. After that there was silence, and never again I heard my father disrespected by racist remarks.
