Participation of the Caney Circle in la Jornada Indigena Taina, Jayuya, Boriken

Takaji My Relatives

The weekend of August 15 and 16 proved to be yet another powerful expression of Taino tradition and cultural strength at the fifth installment of a very important annual celebration high in the central mountains of Boriken.

Again this year the crafts organization known as CATTA under the guidance of our sacred sister Maragarita Noguera, with the co-operation of another powerful and sacred sister, Joanna Soto Aviles,… Continue

Four Days of Vision Questing on the Indian Center hillsite

quester's lonely hilltop campsite

Takaji My Relatives

I presently find myself on the secluded 20-acre hilltop site of Pittsburgh's Council of Three Rivers American Indian Center for four days and nights. I am performing my responsibilities as guide throughout the course of a young woman's Vision Quest experience.

I have moved many of my books that I normally work with and my Mayan Calendar paraphanelia which is always… Continue

Council of Women Introduction

As noted on June 18th, 2009, Maximillian Forte is no longer owner/administrator of this, our Indigenous Caribbean Network. Max's dedication to the Indigenous Caribbean people led him to the creation of this site and he has relinquished ownership and all administrative duties to the Council of Women. Your new administrators are Carrie, Orocobia and Nanu; three Taino women who had previously volunteered to take on co-administrative duties in a supportive role.

We are honored to be able… Continue

Taino Tradition Guanara in Georgia

Tau My Relatives

This past Saturday, June 27 I had the honor of leading the first Taino kansi sweat ceremony in the state of Georgia. I was invited to build the traditional thatched roofed guanara lodge in the manner of the Caney Indigenous Spiritual Circle at the home of Boriken Taino couple Johnny and Lupe Negron near Canton, Georgia.

Lupe is a remarkable healer in her own right. Practicing professionally in the Canton area, I… Continue

Summer Solstice 2009

Tau My Relatives

In spite of the forceful weather that prevented us from celebrating our Summer Solstice Ceremony outside at the public park in Youngstown, Ohio this past Saturday the Sague family and the Simmons family did get together and we did celebrate the sacred seasonal event at my house in the Pittsburgh suburban community of Verona. Because the ritual was a much more intimate and private one as compared to the more elaborate ceremony celebrated during a public Summer Solstice… Continue

This Network is Now Indigenous Controlled

As of 16 June 2009, I am no longer the network administrator, a position one occupies when you found a network on NING. When one establishes a network, even those you invite to serve as co-administrators still have fewer "privileges" than the founder, who can remove them all at any time. For several months that has been the situation with ICN, as Nanu, Orocobia, and Carrie joined me in administering the site.

Given many competing duties and interests, and the fact that there was no… Continue

Janie asked me to perform the ceremony for her marriage to Ramon way back in March amd I was honored and happy to accept.

Resisting Free Trade, Racism, and the State: Peru’s Amazonian Indians Fight Back

‘Peruvian Indians are being driven to desperate measures to try and save their lands which have been stolen from them for five centuries.

‘Their protests signal that the colonial era has finally drawn to a close. No longer are Amazon Indians prepared to put up with the illegal and brutal treatment which has been routine. That’s finished. This is the…

Our families, our communities, our leaders, and hope to be connected to the spiritual world.

I am honoured to be a part of this four day fast. It is a time to reflect and be greatful for all the nuturing
