Four Days of Vision Questing on the Indian Center hillsite

quester's lonely hilltop campsite

Takaji My Relatives

I presently find myself on the secluded 20-acre hilltop site of Pittsburgh's Council of Three Rivers American Indian Center for four days and nights. I am performing my responsibilities as guide throughout the course of a young woman's Vision Quest experience.

I have moved many of my books that I normally work with and my Mayan Calendar paraphanelia which is always… Continue

Council of Women Introduction

As noted on June 18th, 2009, Maximillian Forte is no longer owner/administrator of this, our Indigenous Caribbean Network. Max's dedication to the Indigenous Caribbean people led him to the creation of this site and he has relinquished ownership and all administrative duties to the Council of Women. Your new administrators are Carrie, Orocobia and Nanu; three Taino women who had previously volunteered to take on co-administrative duties in a supportive role.

We are honored to be able… Continue

Taino Tradition Guanara in Georgia

Tau My Relatives

This past Saturday, June 27 I had the honor of leading the first Taino kansi sweat ceremony in the state of Georgia. I was invited to build the traditional thatched roofed guanara lodge in the manner of the Caney Indigenous Spiritual Circle at the home of Boriken Taino couple Johnny and Lupe Negron near Canton, Georgia.

Lupe is a remarkable healer in her own right. Practicing professionally in the Canton area, I… Continue

Summer Solstice 2009

Tau My Relatives

In spite of the forceful weather that prevented us from celebrating our Summer Solstice Ceremony outside at the public park in Youngstown, Ohio this past Saturday the Sague family and the Simmons family did get together and we did celebrate the sacred seasonal event at my house in the Pittsburgh suburban community of Verona. Because the ritual was a much more intimate and private one as compared to the more elaborate ceremony celebrated during a public Summer Solstice… Continue

This Network is Now Indigenous Controlled

As of 16 June 2009, I am no longer the network administrator, a position one occupies when you found a network on NING. When one establishes a network, even those you invite to serve as co-administrators still have fewer "privileges" than the founder, who can remove them all at any time. For several months that has been the situation with ICN, as Nanu, Orocobia, and Carrie joined me in administering the site.

Given many competing duties and interests, and the fact that there was no… Continue

Our sister Janie got married

Tau My Relatives Our Canadian Cree sister Janie, known to many of us by her screen name "BlueSkyWoman", got married to her fiance Ramon this past Friday here in Pittsburgh and I had the pleasure of performing the marriage ceremony in the tradition of the Caney Indigenous Spiritual Circle. Janie asked me to perform the ceremony for her marriage to Ramon way back in March amd I was honored and happy to accept.

We picked a particularly…

The Peruvian Massacre and a “Socialist” Fig Leaf for World Capitalism

James Petras, in an essay that is being widely reproduced across the web (as it will be here as well), articulates a series of critical points regarding the nature of the Peruvian regime, the political history of President Alan García (…

Resisting Free Trade, Racism, and the State: Peru’s Amazonian Indians Fight Back

‘Peruvian Indians are being driven to desperate measures to try and save their lands which have been stolen from them for five centuries.

‘Their protests signal that the colonial era has finally drawn to a close. No longer are Amazon Indians prepared to put up with the illegal and brutal treatment which has been routine. That’s finished. This is the…

cultural beliefs and sacred ways of our people!!!!

On Monday, I go out into the wilderness and will be experiencing my first four day fast.

The fast is a part of the Indigenous Masters Program. I will be praying for all nations during my fast.

Our families, our communities, our leaders, and hope to be connected to the spiritual world.

I am honoured to be a part of this four day fast. It is a time to reflect and be greatful for all the nuturing

They Came Before Columbus...and what?!?

I read They Came Before Columbus: The African Presence in Ancient America by Ivan Van Sertima. I wasn’t halfway through this book and I was thoroughly offended, but I finished it just to hear their point of view.

I don’t buy it.

The belief that Africans were in the Americas before the Europeans were makes sense to me. There is plenty of proof of intercontinental contact world wide. Even evolution depends on intercontinental travel, I don’t see why it would just stop… Continue

Latest Trailer #1 for The Lost Taino Tribe documentary.

Throughout the process of creating this documentary you will be seeing new versions of trailers revealing mini stories of the eventual larger picture. As I travel and cross paths with - many of you again and many of you others for the first time - and whether it is in English, Spanish or Taino - or whether your stance about the Taino story is on the left, right or middle - the goal, the hope is to have many of your voices be… Continue

Why not the Chamorro? A possible peer in Taino cultural revival...

The discussion regarding the Taino language inspired me to further research other indigenous peoples who may be like us; folks struggling with their own individual decolonization while trying to help heal that of their people, reviving the culture and those things that are important to it, making it all work together- past, present and future-in balance. A people that may be similar to my own, in the ways I feel are important. My priorities lie in relationships; how we relate to ourselves, how… Continue

N.Y. Production of Trailer for the Lost Taino Tribe documentary

Here are some images of the making of the documentary trailer in New York. First I want to thank you all that supported and welcomed us to your wonderful city. My first impression is that the Taino story is beyond the facts and truths (which is very important) but it is the unrelenting passion for self identity. Each person - each group - are similiar and different in many ways and together makes for a powerful story.

One week… Continue
