The census is coming!!! What identity will you check off and why???

Lots of opinions of identity have surfaced in different posts about identity, and why you identify yourself as such, often with heated debates and controversy. This is posted to bring up, not a case for controversy, nor adversity, but for healthy discussion. Let's listen and respect ALL opinions and posts. I'd love to hear from ALL!!!

Danille, Actually hispanic means white. Latino means white.

Not sure if you are aware but argentina has alot of euroepan deccendants. Poeple with no admixture just european. The native popoulation there is very small. Anyways those white argentinan have also complained about the hispanic and latino label, even spanirds are complaining. They are pissed cause non white are being labeled that. Belive it or not I am actually not mad at them. I agree. They are hispanic and latino not us. Now if you are a european living in mexico, puerto rico canada, DR, ecudaro then you are a latino. If you are a spaniord living in these araes you to are a latino and also a hispanic.

Hispanic is a lingustic term. But if you look it up in the dictionary it says people and culture of spain, thing of spain. I personly dont consider myself a thing of spain. I actually have tried traced my family back over 9 generations. So far I cant find a direct deccendant of european deccent or from spain. I have only found people who names were anacoano, fili, zili, apolinar, coanbo and a whole bunch of weired names and all these weeried names. They are taino names. I think I am the only person in this site who cant claim to have a spaniord grandpa. This is the case for both of my parents. You see they come from the same mountain region.. Funny thing. My parents passport in the mid 60 actually said indian for race. Another funny story. I started working at the age of 14yo. Hispanic was not used on my job aplication. It said asian, black or african, white european, american indian and then it had a box that said check here if you are mexian, pueroto rican, cuban or other. The person told me to check that box.

Now with that said cause of society if a lie is repeated it then becomes true. So now langauge and race have bocome one. Therfore hispanic and latino. So much that now people who are not even these things are know calling themselves this.

I know I don't count in this discussion but for Mateo I put Hispanic. I know he is white also but I thought you were only allowed to check off one box LOL and since he is a Campos and looks just like his daddy I put Hispanic since that is what my husband identifies himself as.
