My brother Frank I plan to visit Cuba in March and I look forward to videotaping the Cordon Dance near Monte Oscuro in Bayamo
The book "Huellas Vivas Del Indocunbano" ,This book is great-you do have it,right? in it are many dance patterns as well as musical notation for many songs-and many songs sing about CACIQUE GUAMA and HATUEY! I do not read music-I play the guitar and some other instruments, but I wish I could here all the melodies,so I can also sing the words with it....A ritual that we know for sure is Taino, that has never ceased to be performed! Praises to Yaya and the ancestors! :) Makes me very happy, especially since my aunt always mentioned these ceremonies,as she was a very well known medium in Camaguey,Cuba.I saw her in Trance with Taino spirits, blowing the Fotuto-the Conch shell, and helping people, giving advice, cleansing with herbs in that state many times, but never actually saw this dance, all the sessions I attended with her,did not include the Ceremonia del cordon, here in the USA...I suppose that was becausse it only survived/ performed in Camaguey,Cuba and points East of it?
I found Monte Oscuro 2" on Youtube....the guy almost goes into deep trance in this one....a different song/rhythm.
I wish the trance would have occurred, though!
Beike,I can't believe you found this! There many more elaborate patterns ,but having this is priceless! aside from the Christian elements, this is a Taino ritual to induce trance as you know. Thank you for finding this and making available to us!
Interesting , the film credits were in French. Merci. Where did you find this film?
