Taino Ti--

I am going to be traveling west from Massachusetts to California in my RV and plan to visit the Sacred Stone Camp where the Standing Rock Sioux and many other nations and non-indigenous supporters have gathered to stop an oil pipeline that would endanger the waters of the Missouri River.  I don't know if other Taino people have gone, but I would like to make our presence visible.  I am raising funds to buy a case of solar lanterns, to present the gift of sunlight from our people to theirs. I am also negotiating with the manufacturers for a discounted price.  I want to raise $400 which will buy somewhere between 30 and 50 lanterns.  It would be beautiful to have a delegation of us.  I expect to arrive in late September, around the Grito de Lares, in fact.  If anyone wants to send ritual objects or some symbol of our presence, I will be glad to deliver it.  I plan to do ceremony by the river.  If anyone in Boriken can send me a small container of water from one of our rivers, I will pour it into the Missouri.

You can make donations here. Make sure to write Standing Rock in the notes, so I know it's for this campaign.  You can check me out at www.auroralevinsmorales.com to find out more about who I am.

When I was last home in Maricao, I had a powerful dream in which our ancestors told me to defend the mountain where I grew up because it was a reservoir of the spirits and memories of our people, and to defend the springs and rivers of our island and draw strength from them--to drink from them even from far away, and let them flow through me and into the world as words. I promised I would.

I am starting a radio blog, Letters from Earth, which will be aired on Flashpoints, on Pacifica Radio, where I will use poetry to tell stories about environmental justice struggles, and especially about our precious waters.  This trip is part of that promise. I hope you'll join me.
