Event Description

We invite you to join us for our traditional yearly Taino Winter Solstice Ceremony.

We will be honoring the re-conception of our Indigenous Caribbean Life Spirit Yoka Hu. During this season we celebrate the conclusion of his journey to the Underworld realm of the ancestors at the womb of the Cosmic Mother Ata Bey.

There will be traditional Taino chants to the rythm of the mayohuakan drum and the ceremonial Shark Dance and the event will culminate with food communing. Plan to bring your covered dish to share with your brothers and sisters.

My sister Joanna
It may be difficult for me to get away for my visit to Boriken this year because I am part of a team of educators who have submitted a grant proposal for a summer educationa project. If we get the grant I will be teaching in August. If I am not I will definitely come to Boriken

My sister...You know you are with us in spirit no matter what we may be doing, let alone a Taino ceremony. I am still hurting over the fact that we were not able to share with you in Boriken last August.

Lots of blessings to you and your whole family during this season of re-conception and hope for new Life.

Takahi Guatiao,

Hahó for the invitation, Guatiao. My family and I would love to be able to physically attend but we cannot make the trip to Florida from Boriké (aka Puerto Rico) at this time. However, we will be with you all in Spirit and we send you our Love, Blessings and Good Wishes. We know that a wonderful time will be had by all.

Tio Bo Guatukan (Ancestral Blessings),
With Love, Hugs, Peace & Blessings,
Taíno-tí,
Joanna Soto-Avilés & Family
