Hi,

I was wondering where I can learn our traditional Taino language, dances.  I have younger children and I would like for them to learn and appreciate our heritage.  Can someone please help me?

Takaji Yesenia and mabrika (welcome),

Presently there has been a lengthy project by UCTP( United Confederation Of Taino People) to approach the Taino language grammar, nuances, trying to present the appropriate language meanings to so many of us. It is important to say that the Taino language is closely related to the Lokono language and other Arauacan dialects. There is a language group which is part of this network. Also, you can look to UCTP.org and checkout their language page. In the meantime, you may start learning how to address each other, greetings, family, etc. It is a beautiful language and influential, e.g.  the Spanish spoken in the Caribbean has many Taino words in the everyday language. This forum and that of UCTP permits a great exchange with members.Incidentally, you can also join as a tribal member of UCTP. Our Kasike (Cacique) is Toberto Mukaro Agueybana Borerro.

Oma'bahari(respectfully), Seneko Kakona (many blessings) Xochitl AnaO Quinones delValle (Boriken Taino) and Beike of the Caney Spiritual Circle

Not sure how to pose a question on the forums so forgive that I'm writing it under reply..... DOES ANYONE KNOW WHAT IS THE TAINO NAME FOR DRAGONFLY? OR ARAWAK/LOKONO? AND IF ARAWAKN WOULD IT BE CONSIDERED APPROPRIAT TO USE AS A TAINO NAME? THANK YOU IN ADVANCE.
