The on-going tradition of the Mayan Calendar's Venus Cycle, a tradition which
we have shared with you for years in this forum since the forum's inception, is
legitimately significant to us within Taino culture because of the historic
relationship which our Taino ancestors maintained for centuries with our ancient
Maya relatives in the Yucatan region of Central America.

The Mayan Calendar's Venus Cycle describes the continuing journey of the planet
Venus as it moves through its four phases of 1.)Morningstar appearances,
2.)Superior Conjunction with the sun, 3.)Eveningstar appearances, and finally
4.)Inferior Conjunction with the sun. Each cycle is approximatey 582 days long.
The cycles are grouped into sets of five to compose large eight year periods
called VENUS SEQUENCES.

The cycle of four phases is a sacred teaching which marks out the Maya Creation
story now known as the "Popol Vuh" by symbolically describing the various
highlight episodes of the ancient narrative through the Maya Calendar date glyhs
that emerge on the four key nexus dates of each cycle. As mentioned earlier, the
cycles are arranged in sets of five called VENUS SEQUENCES. Each one of the five
cycles in a Venus Sequence conatains its own individual set of four phases
representing four individual episodes of the story. Since each one of the five
cycles in a sequence contains four phases and there are five cycles to a
sequence, then the complete sequence contains a full measure of twenty phases,
representing twenty individual episodes of the creation narrative.

The narrative is atually an adventure tale which reflects energies currently
being played out on a daily basis by humanity. As the protagonists of the legend
travel through this series of adventures so do we also interpret this to mean
that we humans are going through similar experiences in a grand global communal
sense.

At the current time the planet Venus is actually getting ready to conclude its
first phase of morningstar appearances. This phase began around the date April
1, 2009 on the Mayan Calendar date AHAU. When the planet Venus begins a
morningstar phase on the Mayan Calendar date AHAU it marks the beginning of a
five-cycle SEQUENCE that lasts eight years. In other words, April 1, 2009
actually marked the end of a previous eight-year sequence that began in April of
2001. That sequence contained its own five cycles and ended this past April.
right now we are rexperiencing the Morningstar phase of the first cycle in the
current sequence. This sequence will end about aight years from now in March of
2017.

s we move through this the first cycle of the current sequence, we are, as I
mentioned earlier, preparing to experience the conclusion of the Morningstar
phase. This will take place on the Mayan calendar date 11 Cib (November 23,
2009). The Mayan Date cib has connotations of peril as it relates to the sacred
Popol vuh narrative. We are warned to be alert to being spied upon by malevolent
entities who wish us ill.
