Yeah my statement was meant cause many people are under the impression that having a spanish last names means anything to us. Unless there is recent admixture for all we know there are many of us who dont even have european blood.
But yeah brother have a good one talk to you soon.
I think that the picture its very important. As hispanic label was created in the USA in the 60's and now if you read it in the dictionary it doesnt make sence, its says people, culture and thing of spain. I dont consider myself thing of spain/europe. So I stopped identify with that. Latino was a label that europeans used befoe the conquest of our island and our continent. But little by little there was negativity around this label so they gave it to a bunch of people who they thought were savages. These to labels have alot to do with our identity being taking away from us. I mean you have people in what is called latin american who dont have indigenous admixture and are considered hispanic too. Don fransico from sabado gigante is a good example. He is a german jew. No indian blood and he is considered hispanic.
But you hispanic cause you speak spanish. But your hispanic cause you spanirsh last name. I have heard this too now that I am part of our resurgence and affirming more than ever my tainoess.
Language is not a indicator of race. Malcom x spoke english and he didtn consider himself britanic. Spanish last names where giving to the taino in the colonazation period. It was order by king fernand to censor the indians in the caribbean so the slave owners gave there slave there spanish surnames. Same was done to central and south american and even some north american indians. Who actually have spanish last names but dont speak spanich cause then they became property of england and france. So tracing you ancestory threw last name means nothing unless your admixture is recent. I have family that have tried trace there ancestroy back to europe via last name. The more they do that the more indian we find out that we are. My famioly found documentation that spaniords owned my family. It had my family as indians slaves. So dead end for me.
So like I stated unless you have recent admixture like you know for a fact that you grandfather is from spain. Not some stories that I hear people say that they grand grand grand father came from spain. It means nothing. If you can varify it. Then I am sure you dont have it. Cause it doesnt matter how back if you have spanish blood there will be proof.........................
Anyways welcome brother.
I am also a Kubanakan Taino. I was born in Santiago De Cuba and I am married to another santiaguera. We have a son, about your age, very proud of his Kubanakan Taino blood.
Bo Matun for your participation in our event this past Saturday. It took me a bit to place you but i realized who you were once I got back to my computer and searched for you in the network. Your participation was valuable and powerful. I sense that you have a good warrior spirit. It is an honor to have you join the Caney Circle's discussion forum here in this network.
