Profile Information

About Me:
I was born in Guyana to an Arawak mother and father of mixed ethnicity (Chinese, African, Portuguese). My parents were educators who spent 95% of their career educating indigenous people throughout the Hinterland of Guyana.

I started my professional career (1973) at the University of Guyana as a Library Assistant, from which position I studied at the Institution earning my first degree, went on to become the first de facto Head of the Amerindian Research Unit, after which I went to the US to do an MA in Anthropology (1986-88). After studying, I worked as a Researcher in the Financial Services Sector in Wall Street with Shearson Lehman Brothers (1988-93), after which I returned to Guyana.

I have been active in indigenous issues in Guyana from as far back as I can remember, a journey which has taken me to being the first de facto Head of the Amerindian Research Unit at the University of Guyana (1983-86), Head of the Guyanese Organisation of Indigenous Peoples, Volunteer Advisor to the Minister of Amerindian Affairs (1993-5), and Advisor to the Prime Minister of Guyana (1993-1995).

I was also a founder/leader of the Guyana Action Party which I co-founded (1997) with Paul Hardy (of the Melville Clan in the Rupununi, Southern Guyana, land of the Macushi and Wapishana Peoples), which intent was to focus on political empowerment of Guyana's Hinterland Peoples, an interest which continues to be my primary, personal concern.

I now reside (since 2006) and work in the BVI as an educator where I teach English Language at the Secondary Level, and Technical Writing at the Community College. The primary reason for my being here is because I was not able to find employment in Guyana, I suspect, because of my political work among the indigenous peoples in Guyana.

I retire officially in two years when I plan to return to Guyana to resume my political work in the country with my focus on my primary interest, the political empowerment of Guyana's Indigenous Peoples.
