Portugal. The Man band in Pittsburgh

The amazingly talented and socially conscious U.S. alternative rock band PORTUGAL. THE MAN performed at the Petersen Events Center here in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania last evening. I was honored to present the Indigenous land acknowledgement at the opening of the show in behalf of our Pittsburgh-based COUNCIL OF THREE RIVERS AMERICAN INDIAN CENTER and my tribal community the UNITED CONFEDERATION OF TAINO PEOPLE. Some of the most relevant high points of Portugal. The Man's career include well-deserved accolades from Indigenous entities of our country. Among these, in 2019, the band received the Legend Award at that year's Native American Music Awards in Niagara Falls, New York. In January 2020, the group was honored with the Public Sector Leadership Award from the National Congress of American Indians at a banquet in Washington, D.C. In early 2020, Portugal. The Man founded the PTM Foundation, a non-profit charitable organization that primarily focuses on funding causes related to Indigenous peoples' communities.
