As a disabled young woman, I felt that Itiba Cahubaba really spoke to me. She represents suffering, but suffering is needed to reach renewal. As I was drawing her, and my chronic pain began to flare, I heard a voice in my head say “it’s okay if you finish this tomorrow” and it felt loving and motherly. I recognized that it was her communicating with me. I now include her in my prayers. I feel like she guides me, as well as the guaraguao.
