The United Nations International Policy Centre for Inclusive Growth (IPC-IG) is building a network of NGOs, research centers and government agencies that work with indigenous peoples on economic and social development.

I am a representative of the Latin America / Caribbean task force and I would like to know if you could help me identify the main NGOs (non-governmental organizations) and research centers, and government agencies that focus on these issues in the region.

The IPC-IG will soon publish a special issue of its Poverty in Focus magazine on Indigenous Peoples and Development, sharing innovating experiences for the promotion of human development within indigenous communities.

If you have relevant information to help me build this network, please reply on this forum and/or email me at jbvelut@gmail.com

Thank you for your help!

Tau (greetings) friend
Welcome to our network. I read the discussion that you presented and I wondered if you were aware of the work that one of our own Taino leaders, Roberto Mukaro Borrero, is doing on the NGO level at the United Nations. Mr. Borrero is based out of New York City and has been involved in this work for many years now. Among other things he has served as Chairperson of the NGO Committee on the United Nations International Decade of the World's Indigenous Peoples for quite some time.

He maintains extensive contacts with Indigenous leaders throughout the whole Caribbean region through his work as president of the United Confederation of Taino People. I feel if there is anyone among us who can guide you in the right direction toward finding the information you are seeking and the contacts that you need for this effort, that person would be Mr. Borrero.
