My Soldier Girl

She's long-haired and thin
And shops in the Boys' section
For her sneakers and jeans

She's 26 but gets carded at discos and smoke shops
Cause she still looks 16

Her Timberlands are half the price
Her feet are only half the size

She may look dainty but she's strong as an Ox
She can carry four times her weight on her back

She's pretty as a flower and slick as a Viper
And from any distance she can shoot like a sniper

She can crawl through mud or soak in bubbles
She'll never abondon you when you're in trouble

Her heart's soft as butter and hard as a rock
She's tender in love and fierce in combat

She can serve volleyballs or toss grenades
She can help build your house or blow it away

She's sexy and she's tough
And can take on a Boxing champ in the Ring or in love

She's brave and she's proud and she answered the call
To risk her life to protect us all

For my daughter Vanessa

Your Lying Lips

Your lying lips spoke of love
Of companionship forever more
Of the ecstacy that would be mine
When you and I lived side by side

But all I knew while joined to you
Was loneliness and fear
Shattered dreams and love betrayed
A deluge of bitter tears

Love to you was nothing more
Than the melding of our hips
And all the joy you promised me
Just empty words from your lying lips

Cofre de Recuerdos

Cuando Mama se fue al cielo
En un par de alas doradas
Dejo un cofre de recuerdos
Para que nunca la olvidara

Recuerdo con alegria
Su blanca cabellera
La suavedad de su lindo rostro
Y su infinita bondad

Sus calidos abrazos
Que hacian desvanecer mi mas profundo dolor
El amor que brotaba como un volcan
De su inmenso corazon

Las deliciosas aromas
Que en su cocina habitaban
Su forma de recibir
Al que a su puerta llegara

Con una bella sonrisa
Y un caldero sin fondo

Mama's Treasure Trove

When Mama went to heaven
On wings of purest gold
She left a treasure trove of memories
For me to have and hold

I joyously recall
Her hair the color of virgin snow
Her radiant smile
Her gentle grace
The scent of Olay
On her lovely face

The aromas of her kitchen
That wafted through the 7th floor
And always had the neighbors
Salivating at her door

And all who knocked were blessed
With an overflowing serving
Her pots and pans were bottomless
Her kindness was unending

Reflections

I took a stroll down Memory Lane
In the recesses of my mind
Where reflections of the past are kept
And I wept

For journeys through valleys of sorrow
And up mountains of bleak tomorrows
That loomed beyond the desolate waste
Of decisions made in haste
And I wept

For words spoken without thought
And the many tears they brought
For the "I'm sorry" left unuttered
And the "I love you" left unsaid
And I wept

At the shame of having to traverse
Bridges that were left in flames
For opportunities that were lost
Because I failed to go across

Full Circle

At the foot of the bridge where you first met
discarded newspapers serve as your bed
The river she cried you laps at your feet
A light in a window won't let you sleep

Your stomach growls you lie awake
A pigeon sends some poop your way
You sigh and hope tomorrow yields
Enough cans and bottles to pay for a meal

You stare at the light for a while
And long for the marriage bed you defiled
The loving arms that held you once
And the three little girls you walked out on

My Father

Two simple words defined his life
Commitment and sacrifice
59 years by my mother's side
He loved her till the day he died

He toiled under the scorching sun
To harvest the sugar that sweetened our coffee
And the tobacco that sickened his lungs

Even when pickings were slim
Dad never failed to bring home the beans
He took care of his woman and their brood of 19

And many times he went without
Feasting on memories of meals long digested
And he washed them down with tears
And the sweat that fell from his brow

And No One Knows

She always looks her very best
In stylish threads that grace
Her shapely legs and slender thighs

And no one knows
The pain she hides behind her sexy stride

Her make-up is meticulous her hair is done just so
Her smile is radiant she's love to behold

And no one knows
The longings of her soul

She strives for excellence as she endures
The envious gaze of women and the lustful stares of men

And no one knows
She needs a friend

The pendulum sways as each night she returns
To a lonely place where no one awaits
Where the mask of confidence is hung on a peg

And no ones knows
A tear-stained pillow cradles her head

There only 11 left. Yes, we are a tribe, There are just over 300 of us and that's just direct descendents of my parents. It does not include people who have married into the family.

Without having read your code of conduct, rest assured that I will not post anything innappropriate or disrespectful on this site.

You have 18 siblings? That is fantastic, almost like you have your own personal tribe!

Anyway, back to my standard, dry, cut and paste welcome message ;-)
