Celebramos Luna LLena en Chicago........We Celebrated Full Moon in Chicago 5/2/2015

Fui invitado este ultimo fin de semana por nuestra hermana taina boricua, Mayra Montezuma, a visitar la ciudad de Chicago para celebrar con su familia la sagrada ceremonia de la LUNA LLENA segun la tradicion Taina del Circulo Espiritual Caney.

I was invited this past weekend, by our Boricua Taino sister, Mayra Montezuma, to visit the city of Chicago and celebrate with her family the sacred ceremony of FULL MOON in keeping with the Taino tradition of the Caney Spiritual Circle.

El peque~o grupo familiar de Mayra y yo nos reunimos en un precioso parque en la zona oeste de la ciudad llamado Humboldt Park. Este parque se encuentra en el centro del barrio hispano de Chicago, que tambien lleva el mismo nombre de "Humboldt Park". Esta zona urbana  de Humboldt Park sirvio de eccenario para los eventos historicos de la decada de los 1960's cuando un numero de agrupaciones puertorrique~as de esta area de Illinois se unieron para llevar a cabo acciones revolucionarias que llegaron a lograr los derechos civiles de los boricuas y otras jentes de habla hispana en esta ciudad.  

Mayra's small family group and I came together at a beautiful park in the western sector of the city called Humboldt Park. This park is located at the center of the Hispanic Chicago neighborhood of the same name "Humboldt Park". This urban zone was the scene of the historic events of the 1960's during which a number of Boricua organizations of this area of Illinois came together to carry out revolutionary acts that succeeded in securing civil rights for Boricuas and other Spanish-speaking people in this city.

Yo monte el altar de AtaBey y Yokaju, y las cuatro direcciones sagradas en la gramma del parque.

Y set up the altar to AtaBey and Yokahu, and the four sacred directions on the grass of the park.

Fumamos el Tabaco en mi pipa taina de barro y oramos por el bienestar y la salud de nuestros hermanos y hermanas en el movimiento de restauracion de la tradicion taina en el mundo.

Nuestra hemana Mayra sirvio de representante de la sagrada madre cosmica AtaBey en el rito durante el cual se prenden las dos antorchas que simbolizan la doble luz de la luna llena. Ella prendio las antorchas y recito las palabras sagradas "LAS MUJERES TENEMOS DENTRO DE NUESTROS CUERPOS EL RITMO DEL UNIVERSO", que celebra el echo de la existencia de un ciclo menstrual de 28 dias en el cuerpo de las mujeres humans que tiene paralelo en el ciclo lunar de 28 dias del la mujer divina.

 

We smoked my Taino clay pipe and we prayed for the health and welfare of our brothers and sisters in the movement for the restoration of Taino tradition on this earth.

 

Our sister Mayra served as representative of AtaBey on the ritual during which the the two torches are lit symbolizing the double light of the full moon. She recited the sacred words "WE WOMEN HAVE WITHIN US THERHYTHM OF THE UNIVERSE", which celebrate the fact of the existence of a menstrual cycle of 28 days within the bodies of human women that mirrors the lunar cycle of 28 days of the divine woman.

 

Como parte de mi intercambio con los miembros de la familia de Mayra tuve el honor de compartir informacion acerca de la labor de nuestra organizacion taina CONFEDERACION UNIDA DEL PUEBLO TAINO, guiada por nuestro Kasike Roberto Mukaro Borrero. 

 

As part of my interaction with the members of Mayra's family I had the honor of sharing information about the work of our Taino organization UNITED CONFEDERATION OF TAINO PEOPLE, guided by our kasike Roberto Mukaro Borrero.

 

Para mi fue un verdadero honor tener la oportunidad de llevar esta tradicion sagrada taina a nuestros familiares espirituales en Chicago. Me llevo un sentimiento muy profundo de hermandad y paz de mis nuevos amigos en la "ciudad de los vientos".

 

For me it was a true honor to have had a chance to bring this sacred Taino tradition to our spiritual relatives in Chicago. I take away with me a profound sense of brotherhood and peace from my new friends in the "Windy City".
