On Monday, October 10, 2022 I had the honor of participating as an invited guest speaker at the sixth annual celebration of INDIGENOUS PEOPLE'S DAY on the grounds of PennTreaty Park in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
I had the opportunity to represent our Native Caribbean community the UNITED CONFEDERATION OF TAINO PEOPLES as an official ambassador of the Confederation as well as our Pittsburgh Native community, the COUNCIL OF THREE RIVERS AMERICAN INDIAN CENTER and our sacred community the CANEY INDIGENOUS SPIRITUAL CIRCLE
The event was a potent demonstration of the power of determination and collaboration personified in one of the leaders and organizers of IPD Philly, the Chilean Indigenous woman Mabel Negrete.
The event attracted a huge crowd of people from all over a city that has officially replaced Columbus Day with Indigenous Peoples' Day. Everybody had a wonderful time on a gorgeous Monday afternoon.
There were performances by talented Indigenous artists representing local Native Nations such as the Lenape (Delaware) and many other tribes from all over the North American, Central American and South American continents.
The vendors' booths and displays represented Indigenous people from everywhere in the Americas.
Yaya Guaturey the Creation Spirit was with us yesterday at Penn Treaty Park represented by both Atabey the Earth and Water Mother and Yokahu the Sky Father of Life and Energy.
