The Lost Taino Tribe Documentary - Being Created From The Input Of The Global Community

I am a filmmaker - born on the island of Vieques, P.R.

According to history - The last Native Taíno revolt against the Spanish crown took place in Vieques
(Taino: Bieques Borikén). The cacique brothers, Cacimar and Yaurèibo, fought to the death on this island.

In recent contemporary history for over half a century my people of Vieques revolted against the U.S. military's use of using their island as target practise by air, sea, and land which left our physical and spiritual enviornment poisoned to this day.

I guess you could say that fighting against injustices is in my blood and I use my storytelling and my camera to fight the wars for those who don't often have a voice - and often they are "minorites", women and children.

My latest project THE LOST TAINO TRIBE is the story of Taino Identity. This project was a seed of an idea over 5 years ago and today it's in the early stage of development which I have received seed monies from ITVS/PBS to conduct my research. I also created a website for the project www.LostTainoTribe.com to invite everyone and anyone to share their ideas and experiences relating to this story. I in turn will share my experiences in the making of this film for all those who are creatives or just curious how a documentary film is done. Look forward to hearing your stories!

Thank you!

Alex
