Lesley-Ann, I found something weird about this site, not something I have encountered elsewhere and I am sure it has me confused. You have the photo slideshow player working perfectly on your page--no problem there--and you can in fact insert the player on any other site. What I noticed that was "weird" was that when members upload photos, they all get inserted in one mass with one another and are shown on the player on the main page of the network. Maybe that is the aim? Anyway, to simply things, I created albums to sort out member photos. It seems we first need to create an album, then add photos to it?
Maybe, who knows, I am totally clueless now...also, I am suffering from animated emoticon withdrawal symptoms.
Lesley-Ann, thanx for offering a promising long lasting virtual and physical friendship. I learnt from your profile that we may have the epistemic-ethical imprinting of the New School. I will be visiting TT by the end of this month, I'll let you know which days, to try to meet personally. Yaguarix.
Junot's new novel has received excellent critical reviews both in Santo Domingo and abroad. I believe everybody was willing and expecting something like this, that shows that our imagination --People's Heart, in Luis Dias words--, can fly beyond our personal experience. Surely he will come to Santo Domingo for the Annual Book Fair. I haven't yet read the novel, but it is waiting for me at home as soon I finish reading about the invention of Latin America and the hiding of our history. Yaguarix
It's a pleasure to meet you. I am sure that one day you will get time for your self. I must feel so amazing to be a writer and have published your own stories. I hope to read some of your stuff including your latest book.
Lesley-Ann, where are you? Have you gone on sabbatical? It's been a few weeks since I was last in touch with you, I hope everything is alright on your end.
Thanks very much Lesley-Ann. I hope to make it--the problem is almost entirely one of backlogged work and obligations, so if I sense that once again I will not be able to get things done in time, I might have to postpone the trip. I was to go to Jamaica as well in early July and I am considering skipping that. I will let you know as we get closer.
first day. hello to you. would love to talk to you about writing/publishing. come by my page when you have time and listen to the words i'm saying. do i have "something"?
post, post, post. yes, by all means. post my videos on your blog, tell your friends, put them on their blogs. like jazz singers, i'll come to europe to get appreciated. if you know someone if n.y. publishing, tell them you're found the next baldwin. i'm fed up with query letters begging to get noticed. i know i can write. i'm ready to publish and market myself, build an audience the big boys wont ignore. i'm ready for that grind, but... i need my vids to go viral among the conscious communities online. the book, what i know, what i can do has value. identity and empowerment issues wont go away. they cross political boundaries, estates, race. but if no one is listening, why am i here?
you wrote, "i know i can write. i'm ready to publish and market myself, build an audience the big boys wont ignore. i'm ready for that grind, but..."--look: You just got to do what you are doing. Point blank. It's going to be frustrating sometimes, but then you got to ask yourself why you are doing it. If the answer remains satisfactory, then hey--if not, then you are in the wrong business.
I'm in the same boat as you brother, so if we can help each other out, then cool. I know the reason why I do what I do is because I must. I'm working full time in a field that has nothing to do with my identity as a writer--you dig?
Forgive me for interjecting, and maybe for assuming too much, I am just amazed at the coincidences between you and Oronde, twin experiences, West Indian backgrounds, in Brooklyn, writers and thinkers, music and videos, very creative people for whom words are vehicles and not obstructionist challenges the way they are for me. Honestly, I wish I could just adopt grunting, I sometimes feel choked by words. Very best wishes to both of you, I love your works.
been prepping for last weekend's black male development symposium at arcadia university outside philly, pa. much to see and learn. when guiding my own course of study, the path can become so vibrant. like this morning watching amy tan at the TED conference talk about creativity made me recall the serendipity that befalls the purposed sojourner guided by truth. the universe brings all that's needed in spades. so MAXIMILLIAN, i can see why leslie and i did meet here and not in b'klyn... we are supposed to meet here, thanks to you.
i'm gonna send <---- that poem to my mother. well said... you ever get the bk to do reading, promote your work? who is the biggest name in carib lit today? i tell my mom i'm publishing my memoir this summer and she want me to change the names. i tell her i can't do that. she says how long is my book? 200+ pgs. make it shorter, she says. i agree there. she's a reader. i ask her if it will sell. she says the "nasty"--urban lit crap-- books are all she sees people reading. i need to find out where OUR lit audience is in bk? if there is no comm. you and i need to create a new Caribbbean Renaissance.
are you an instant message person? i wasn't, but in this case it may be helpful. i'm"oronde ash" on msn messenger. at least i think that's how it works. what's your IM i-d? i can access other online IM services as well if you use aol or whatever.
