Thanks for watching my video. The "bag of weed" comment comes from the fact that the poem is a mix of advice from various women, from all different backgrounds who all had some advice of how one can survive here in Copenhagen. It is not an endorsement, but something to think about in terms of how different people use different things to cope. Some people drink, others smoke weed, others read history and gain strength from that. The poem is a contemplation of all the above.

How sad that I did not welcome you, please accept my apologies, I have been absent for a few weeks. Please let me know if you encounter any difficulties in using the site -- it looks like you are doing a great job though!

Very best wishes and a very warm welcome.

Hello tainoray, I think I remember the "veracity" aspect you mentioned. It was a bit of a risky term for me to use, thinking about it in hindsight, because though it was meant as an acronym the fact is that it sounds like "truth" and it suggests that "untruth" might be lurking nearby. In other words, if I were to rewrite the paper, I would leave that out, and just focus on how Taino representatives have been especially skilled at maximizing their self-representation online, possibly more than most indigenous communities.

But, I would like to hear what you wanted to say about that "veracity" idea, and please be really blunt if you didn't like it, because academics shouldn't teach if they can't learn.

Thank you for the warm welcome.
Did you make those majuacans that are in your pictures?

I do not know what Maubi is made from but I was introduced to it in Georgetown, Guyana. It was very popular in the earlier days. It goes nice with "tennis-roll" (round bread) and cheese.
It can be bought at any West Indian grocery store in US.
  • Jorge Baracutei Estevez

    Hey Ray,
Thanks for the pics once again brother. That was my sons first time dancing in full lakota regalia.
As for the Maubi, if it is the same as Mabi, then yes I know the ingredients. We should have a Mabi workshop perhaps at the American Indian Community House or the Cultural Center.
  • adem medina cardona

oh my! how beautiful, is it your painting???

    Hello Mr Tainoray
the information you placed on the webpage on how to design a mola is excellent.

I have been searching for many years for paintings or art done by the Amerindians.
Thanks once again for the information.

If I felt safe about traveling to the U.S. (I could go into some detail there) you are definitely one of the people I would be honoured to meet. I wanted to ask you about the message you posted on Ifagbenle's blog (see his message below) -- which I thought was a kind of poetic synthesis that was very poignant. I wanted to ask you if you would allow me to reproduce it on a blog outside of this network, and if so how I should attribute it (such as, preferred name, place, title, date, etc.)? Anyway, if you don't feel comfortable with it going outside, not to worry and of course I abide by your wishes.

Stoppin' by to say "Tau Ti" to a new guaitiao, thankful of a new friendship and to say ...

  • Maximilian Forte

Sorry, I meant the very same poem you sent me by email. In terms of attribution, should I just say "Tainoray"?
  • Jorge Baracutei Estevez

    Taiguey Ray,
Well this is a tough one, I have often wondered if bochinche is Taino or not. If you break down the word you cetainly find a connection although this can be coincidental. Maybe we should get David Wayahona in on this.
  • AkuTurey

Yes,Tainoray,i do consider i9t a rare piece,as I have looked, and it is difficult,I was told a guy in D.R.made some nice ones, but I couldn't find him either. The Cemis are no longer hollow!!they are PACKED with secret things,to the brim, and sealed!Treasures indeed...a 6 hour process tonight with Yocaho Guama!-I asked him after if all was well and complete, and he said "Jan-Jan Catu!"with one cast of the shells."Inriri"-that's so interesting because Inriri is the Woodpecker that made the andrgynous beings into females,by pecking....tell him to make all 12!!(the most important Cemi)Did he carve the original out of rock,or wood?Well, goodnight,
    F.Turey
  • AkuTurey

    Jejeje!"Bochinche"!I don't know the origin...gossip.....but I can try to figure it out,.."chinchin"-a little..."Bo",big,great"..".Important/big-little talk"-sound right!!"Important little talk"-a sense of humor!,ans wit,the sarcasm.My guess,but It sounds pretty good-we'll see.

I was reading the posts about the Columbus statue, and I hope to post that news (and the poems we talked about) on The CAC Review in the coming days. I am still taken aback, at the bad taste to say the least, and the disgusting abuse of history represented by this statue project. Every imperialist and racist jackass in high office is showing his/her true face these days, because presumably they feel comfortable doing so in this period. Now, I'm angry again.

Tainoray, your consorte from Nacion TAino,Jose Barreiro-I put out a 5 page article on "Taino Indians Still Thrive in Cuba"-there are SO MANY examples here !-this may be"Old-news"to you,but to me,this a real treasure-find...and one of my favorite dishes that my mom made was"Ajiaco",and she even had told me that this is from the Indians....Boricuas say,"Sancocho"-do you know the origin of the word,"Sancocho"?I know,Cubans will often use the Yoruban-African word for Okra,"Kimbombo",as well as"Fu-fu",for a plantain mash with pork bits/chicharron thing. On my new Discussion,I have put up the web address for the whole Jose Barreiro thing, and all the great pictures and stuff.Taiguey,

Tau Brother.....Bo matun for the comment that you made on the video that I posted. I feel that a cd edition of these sacred chants as you suggest are a distinct likelihood and I am going to look into the possibility of making them available by next year. I hope you enjoyed the chants that I posted here on your comment wall. I hope that you give me your opinion on these also.
By The way you were the topic of conversation between myself and another brother at the Pittsburgh pow wow this weekend. He is a Seminole from Florida called Dennis who was selling macaw feathers from his trader's booth during the celebration. He said that he had sold you some feathers. I told him that I knew you also.
