Oolite Arts Conversations: Miralda with Trasobares and Palmié

Transducing into the aesthetic, cultural and political dimensions of a remarkably global product: the Maggi bouillon cube.

The worldwide circulation of Maggi cubes is anthropologically embraced via a historical, artistic and commercially-propagandized lens, offering critical insight into their presence across highly diverse cultural contexts.

Tracing a trajectory through which Maggi seasoning achieved global recognition, as varied local adaptations surrounding the cube — not only as a commercial product and brand, but also as a near fetish cultural symbol -- engendered imagery on billboards in Africa, as well as cookbooks and culinary traditions in English, Spanish, French and Creole.

A fulsome area of study!  From North Florida and up the coastal islands of Georgia, thru North & South Carolina there is a culture and cuisine like no other, Gullah Geechee. It's a mix of low country Southern Soul food with West African & Caribbean influences.
If you ever get the chance to try this cuisine I highly recommend it, the flavor palate is hard to describe. A lot of blended sweet savory smokey citrus notes compliment locally sourced foods.
