Thanks for the note. Not much is know about its use. This is what I do know.
It is from a famous treasure salvager's collection. He found it on a Spanish
Galleon wreck site. It is rare because the Spanish at that time being
Catholics forbid their citizens from holding pagan artifacts, and supposedly it was punishable by death to have them. So why would an ancient mariner take the risk to have an item like this?

I have a native friend who is an archaeologist with some amazing intuitive
gifts that may shed light on its use. I admit his impressions may not be scientific and subjective but still it is something to go on.
