I frankly dont know how many Grass Dancers asked constitute "critical mass" for permission. I will put you in contact with my Cree family so that you can ask them yourself. You can contact Rosa, my sister at rosajohn57@yahoo.com
You can read a little bit about the John family performance group in a blurb published by the Canadian government tourism department at

The Beaner used to go down to FLA with her family annually from about 2002 to 2007 every December for the Mickasukee pow wow near Miami. That ended in 2008 but she still comes down during the Xmas season for our annual family reunion with my dad.
More on this later

I would have loved to be a grass dancer- they are my favorite dancers at powwows. I have seen very good female grass dancers but they would only dance grass during the switch dances.

I am not on Facebook, Miguel, so pardon me when I ask... how many dancers were "enough" to grant permission?

Does she ever come to FL to dance? I would love to see her...

Taau Brother
I learned a lot more about Beanie's Grass Dancing from her and her mom after that initial comment tat I made back in December. The way that Rosa and Beanie explained it to me, the youngster actually went from grass dancer to grass dancer individually asking permission from a large number of these persons. After a lot of these, my understanding is that it was agreed that enoughh of them had granted her the permission she needed to perform this particular dance style. I know that some of you are subscribed in Facebook. My sister Rosa is also on Facebook and she is on my friends list there. I encourage you to look me up on Facebook and track down Rosa on my Facebook frieds list you can ask her yourself. I know she wont mind answering your questions and maybe when she realizes the interest that her family has aroused here on this network she will finally join here like Ive been urging her to do for months now. I love yu all

Yes
I know that grass dancers are normaly men but she was given special permission within her Cree Nation (her dad is Cree her mother is Taina). I believe that the permission came from some sort of society that deals with grass dancing but I am not really sure. Right now they all went out to a place called Bayside here in Miami. Her brother Jody arrived last night with his fiancee and their brand new baby and my sister Rosa decided to take the whole crew, her husband Melvin, my nieces, Crystal ("Bieanie"), Violet ("the Weasel"), Monique ("Icky") with her son Stryder, and the new papa and mamma, Jodie and his fiancee for a boat ride. When they get home I'll ask Beanie what exactly was the agreement va which she was given permission to dance grass dance and then I'll get bac to you.
