4ta Jornada Indígena-Taína 2008 en Bo. Coabey, Jayuya, Puerto Rico

COMUNICADO DE PRENSA 26 de Julio 2008

4ta Jornada Indígena-Taína 2008 en Bo. Coabey, Jayuya, Puerto Rico

(English Language version below)

PRESS RELEASE
July 26, 2008

4th Taíno Indigenous Gathering 2008 in Bo. Coabey, Jayuya, Puerto Rico

On Saturday and Sunday, August 16-17, 2008, the 4th Taíno Indigenous Gathering 2008 will be held on the grounds of CEDETRA in Bo. Coabey, Carr. 144 – Km. 9.3. This annual event celebrated in Honor of the Puerto Rican Indian is sponsored by the Autonomous Municipality of Jayuya (Office of Tourism) and CATTA-COOP, Inc. (Cooperative of Artisan Workers of the High Land). This year, the Gathering is entitled “¡AREYTO!” and is dedicated to the Children and Youth of Boriké.

The Autonomous Municipality of Jayuya, the Cooperative of Artisans (CATTA-COOP, INC.) and the Community of Taíno Indigenous Descendents of Boriké have rescued from obscurity the proclamation of the “Day of the Puerto Rican Indian” which was approved into law the 12th of August of 1970 by the Interim Governor of the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, the Hon. Fernando Chardón. This year the date August 12, 2008, is transcendental because it represents 500 years since the arrival of the Spanish Reign to Boriké and the fulfillment of the Prophecy of the Rebirth of the Taíno People.

We invite the public to celebrate with us. The activities programmed are free of cost to the public and include Ceremony, Music, Dance, Drumming, Activities for Children and Youth, Artisan Fair, Photo Expo and Visual Presentations, Traditional Artisan Workshops, Conferences, and a Campaign to Protect and Care for Our Mother Earth.

There will be Native and Creole food and refreshments and the sale and/or consumption of alcoholic beverages will not be permitted on the grounds or surroundings during the celebration of this family activity. Space for camping is available (please call to confirm and reserve). Donations are accepted and appreciated, and volunteers are welcome.

that video is awesome
how the camera person gets drawn in to what they are filming
and it is as if the viewer becomes a part of the celebration,
rather than vicarious exposure we recieve the direct experience
thank you so much for that~c
