Here is a copy of the email sent by Dr. Neal about the sweat lodges for next year. He and I are the only ones signed up so far. You will be with me on the July 9 Full Moon sweat lodge. it would be good for you to send Neal an email by way of introduction and so you two can get to know each other. That way he will remember to put your name on the schedule when it gets posted. His email is firstname.lastname@example.org. Neal is a semi retired medical doctor who is also a medium and on the board of directors at Lily Dale, and has been directing lodges for most of the time the lodge has been there. He is Lakota trained and often brings in Lakota elders and teachers. Really nice guy.
Hello lodge-pourers and possible lodge pourers.
I am sending this e-mail out to some folks who I know have either poured lodges in Lily Dale or elsewhere I may have forgotten someone who may be interested, so pass this on to them if you think it is appropriate.
For over 20 years I have been organizing sweat lodge ceremonies for the Lily Dale summer program, and pouring the vast majority of them. That has changed in the past two years as I try to give others the wonderful opportunity I have had with this.
So I am asking if you may be interested in pouring a lodge in Lily Dale for the summer of 2017. I am asking early because we are already working on scheduling the 2017 program so we can get it out by January.
To give you an idea, I have attached the write-up which appeared on page 7 of this year’s program below. Your first name and last initial will be used in the catalog.
If you are interested in asking for a date ( or 2? ) let me know before Sept 30th so I can get it in for next year. Although I will try to be around for at least part of your lodge, I ask you to be in charge of getting a firekeeper or doorkeeper if you need them, as well as making sure someone starts a sign-up list for lodge when the fire is started. Also be willing to oversee putting the lodge away when done. We ask for free-will donations for firewood. These can be dropped off tat the Maplewood Hotel or given to me. I have tried to make sure leaders take $20 out for gas money for themselves. Otherwise there is no monetary compensation to you for doing these lodges… only the satisfaction of a service given for others.
Also, the lodge will fit about 22 in 2 rows not counting yourself. If too many want to go in, we usually have a second lodge about 2 hours later if there is interest. (if you are used to doing longer lodges please keep this in mind) Let me know if you are willing to do a second lodge if there are too many. Otherwise I have been very happy to do a second ( and sometimes a third!) lodge if needed.
So please, if interested, let me know date(s) and times. Here are some dates/times that are already taken for the lodge area:
-Sunday July 9th full moon mixed lodge with Spider starting at
Check your email for a copy of the info I sent to the Dunkirk Library in preparation of setting up a presentation with you. This woman may call you for more info. This will be a good place to reach out to the local Taino community but they close early so we are looking at a morning presentation and publicity will matter. Also Carmen is trying to get you sponsored by one of the Caribbean restaurants for a talk.
i still need a poster to advertise the sweat lodge--ASAP so people know you will be coming to Lily Dale.
I trust you are having a great trip. When you get back, please remember to send me the poster/artwork to advertise your sweat lodge at Lily Dale on August 18. I will need a regular size one of your wonderful Taino drawings on jpg and I will print it out and get out the word on your visit and book signings.
For your info, here is an excerpt from the email I sent Neal at Lily Dale about the sweat lodge for next summer. We get there around 2-3 that day to prepare, and people arrive around 5 when the fire is lit. They will have everything there for us as far as the lodge and firewood. I will send the write up that will go in the Lily dale catalog when I get it done. Let me know if there is any other info about yourself you want to add but please make it brief, space is limited.
"I can take the full moons on the actual dates of July 19 and August 18. The lodge on August 18 will be with Miguel Sigue, elder of the Caney Indian Spiritual Circle and the Indigenous Caribbean Network. I have confirmed this date with him. I will send a write up shortly."
Thank you for the welcome Brother, I'm so grateful to be here. I find what you have said makes my heart beat Ike thunder, as my maternal Grandmother now my Ancestor named me after her little crow daughter of Mother Crow. Looking forward to learning more. One love!!
I am looking forward to getting to know you mi Hermano and to learn about our heritage so I can pass it on to my children who are already proud of their Cuban heritage and very excited to learn about their Taino heritage. Thank you for the warm welcome. I committed this summer to do the Sundance again and am looking forward to it again and am looking forward to learning all the customs, ceremonies, songs, and history of our people. Thank you again, Reinaldo "Standing Eagle" my Chippewa Spirit name Lazo and one Day I hope to receive my Taino name (what an emotional day that would be if I was ever seen to be worthy to have one)
