Dominica's beauty is sharply contrasted against it's high poverty and crime. I hope that this changes soon. It seems to be a result of very corrupt government.
I don't know anybody from Dominica. I would love to meet some perhaps there are others on this network who can answer your questions concerning this topic.
Hallo Bella,
I really hope you find the relatives you are looking for!
Family ties and patterns in the Caribbean seems to be a bit loose to me, and I believe this is due to the island life style. Most often it is the women who keeps the families together while the men travel around the islands - often in order to find work - and the women and children stay behind. And it is not uncommon that the men have different families in the different islands - which don't appeals to me.. I would not feel comfortable sharing my man! :-)
I believe the Caribs tend to be more rooted in the island/Dominica than the majority of the population.
How old is your son? I have two sons; aged 3 and 12, and a daughter of 10.
Have a nice weekend!
/Pernilla
Dominica is very beautiful. Trefalger Falls is one of the main tourist attractions on the island. Tourists cant treck into the rainforest up until the observatory shown in my picture. The trail leads further however, climbing giant stones up to the hot pools of sacred water just next to the falls. A disclaimer warns tourists that this part of the trail is quite dangerous and that proceeding foward from this point is done at one's own risk. I had to keep climbing. I was entranced and grinning unconciously. I had almost reached the pool at the top when it began to rain. My tour guide insisted that we turn back. The river and falls were swelling. I took my picture at the observatory platform after we climbed back down the huge, slippery rocks. I have seldom felt as at peace as I did at Trefalger Falls Dominica.
Hallo Bella,
Nice to meet you!
So your son's father is from Dominica? I am writing a master essay about Dominica and particularly the Carib Indians in the island. I spent a couple of months in the island in 2000 with my two children (now I have three), but I am planning to get back there soon.
We stayed on the east coast, close to Marigot and the Carib Territory.
And yes, it is a fantastic and very beautiful island!

A belated welcome bella. I have missed out on some of the conversation, but I am glad you are finding your way around. Let me know if you have any questions about using the site.
Hello Izabela:
I forgot to mention you can also write to the Parish in Dominica for data on the specific Grant you seek. If he is not amongst the living then getting the information will be easy. They usually charge a fee for researching, mailing record back to you.
It took many years for me to research my family tree, do the detective work that was needed to find specific individuals.
Its not easy, but every breakthrough in finding an individual or family group of ancestors brings a specific pride in the work one has done.
If you choose to do the work yourself have your son help you.
Two heads are always better than one.
There will be frustrations along the way, but that's part of the work.
One more thing, pray to the spirits of youre ancestors, if they are ready to let you find them, then the work will be that much easier for you.
Ayes.

It's not just a simple matter of looking up one person.
The project would involve researching and composing a whole family tree from the present to the earliest ancestor.
I think we must not discuss business within this forum.
Please go to my profile page and copy my E mail address and send me an E mail. Be sure to place your name in the Subject Box. (I have my E mail box placing unknown mail in my spam box.)

Hola, Bella:
The list of Grant individuals is just a preliminary mapping out of ancestors. No wives or marriages or family data was included.
Its a scratch pad notation of sorts that is part of the methodology that genealogists use.
You are now wanting for me to get into the professional aspect of genealogy, this would mean getting into a detailed family tree that contains family members wives, baptismal dates, dates of birth, place of birth etc.
This means I would have to charge you money for the time that I spend on such a project because of the extensive time involved in doing the detective work to track down all family members.
The place I used I paid a professional fee inorder to have access to those records.
I provided the list of Grant family members because you had asked a basic question on behalf of your son.

Part two:
Your question about hair colour of Tribe that has supposedly gone extinct.
The answer is quite elementry.
If red hair colour is a prominent feature within your family, and you do have a family verbal history of genetic exchanges then the tribe of Indigenous peoples that are supposedly extinct live on within your family.
Only an mtDNA test and a yDNA test would confirm a family verbal history.
But, according to new international law ratified by the UN, verbal histories are to be respected as if it were a written history.

Hola Bella:
You asked Ruben if there was a genealogist who is a member.
I am.
Have a look at my Tribal Pages containing my family tree.
http://ayesart.tribalpages.com
I have a lot of Cuban, Dominican and Puerto Rican ancestors as well as European ones.
You decide after having a look at my family tree if I am a genealogist or not.

I have a lot of Cuban, Dominican and Puerto Rican ancestors as well as European ones.
You decide after having a look at my family tree if I am a genealogist or not.
