On Thursday, November, 13, 2008 a great woman, mother, housewife and above all an incredible human being crossed over. To say she will be missed by her family and friends is an understatement. I write these few words to express the pain I feel and to shed light not so much on how she died, but on how she lived, her strength, her struggle and her love.
I met Sonia Migdalia Rosa 8 years ago when I received an email from a total stranger. Asking me countless questions, I was…

Tau My Relatives
I was invited by a Taino brother, Maximus, to attend a gathering of
Indigenous people in New York City this past weekend of November 13,
14,and 15. From what I understand, these kinds of gatherings are, in
part, intended to promote a sense of unity and co-operation within the
context of sacred space among peoples of the earth who are sensing a
need to reconnect with our ancestral Indigenous…

Image of the Sague family Day of the Ancestor's Altar
Tau My Relatives as I prepare to gather with my family this evening for our annual ceremony to honor those who have traveled to the Realm of Koa Bay (the abode of the departed souls) I realize that this year our ceremony will be particularly emotional for me. Our family here in Pittsburgh follows the Caney Spiritual Circle tradition of ceremonially observing the time of the year…

Luzia's skull was found in a Brazilian cave in 1978. Her remains were stored for quite sometime until someone began to take interest in her skull. She died at the age of 20 to 25 years.…

The family tree I am going to share with you today contains the ancestral heritage that goes back to the year 1990 AD to Cuba.
The people that lived during that time were the Guanahuatabey.
The Guanahuatabey were a distinct people and spoke a different language from the classic Taino.
They and the other tribes that lived in the Carribean are considered, "neo Taino."
I think that terminology is a gross error, because it is another way of insulting us all.
Neo according…

The following is my family tree. I have been working upon it since 1956 to present.
Explanation of PCID Post Columbian Indigenous Descent. This speaks to you of the results of my maternal mtDNA test. My father's yDNA test was a total surprise to me. He was supposed to have Irish sequences.
As it turned out his yDNA Haplo group was E3b2. Phonecian and Middle Eastern sequences with a touch of Levite Jew.
In any case, Getting…

Be sure to see this month's issue of Forum from Florida
Humanities Council. It has a special on the Florida's
Indigenous Caribbean connection.
See it on their website at
http://www.flahum.org/
Also I think my book has a mention in this month's issue. I wait in anticipation for it to arrive in the mail.

This month people in various countries will be celebrating what is commonly called “Columbus Day” or “Dia de la Raza”; a day marked to celebrate the arrival of Columbus and his cronies crew onto the shores of “virgin” lands.
Many view this as an incredible event, worthy of celebration and joy. At a time when the planet was believed to be flat and only dangers and monsters awaited at the edge of the world, that a man had the audacity to take off into the vast unknown is nothing short…

Dualities
That has always been the human downfall.
You came to us in your shining armor
And you were lost looking for the promised land.
We knew who you were
And all you would bring, there was a prophesy.
And despite knowing that
We extended our hands in friendship.
You raped us
You stole all that we had and knew
And you cut off our extended hands
Of good will and…

Atabey - Earth Mother
Mother of conception and birth
Mother of Yucahu
Her image has been transformed by those who practice Spiritualism. Our perception of the gods change as we change.
I created the painting upon two canvases joined together to place emphasis on the spiritual world of Atabey merging with the concept of the physical world. And to dispel the illusion of dualities.
People are actually…

I am hoping everyone can read Spanish. I am going to post some documentation regarding the Repartamiento de Indios without writing my thoughts about it. The documents will tell all.
At the end of this post I have added the genealogy of Moctezuma family.
You will see precisely how mtDNA and yDNA were infused into the Spanish bloodlines and then transfered via "mestizo" children who moved to the Caribbean, Terra Firma, etc. The Moctezuma descendants have been found in Puerto Rico in the…

I am going to post as my first blog entry a comment I had made a few minutes ago to one of our members.
I think it will describe where I am at and where I have been and where my ancestry is within.
Enjoy:
Good Evening:
I am a new member to this net work and I happened to be browsing articles and I found yours quite interesting.
I have had my mtDNA analysed by Family Tree DNA and the results showed Haplo Group C. My wife also had her mtDNA done and her…

I read this essay with much interest and can identify quite a bit with what Michelle is saying when speaking of the attitudes encountered when interacting with the native peoples of the US.
I am of the opinion that some of the native peoples of the US have been convinced into believing that a piece of paper gives them authenticity. As their ancestors were brainwashed into believing the fences around their reservation, they have been brainwashed into the fences around the nation…

Tau My Relatives
In a recent post I pointed out the presence this Fall season, of the cemi Guama Hu-Rakan, servant of the Cosmic Matriarch when she manifests in her forceful wrathful manifestation, Gua-Ban-Ceh.
Guama Hu-Rakan is the spirit of spinning storms, hurricanes, tornados, waterspouts, and whirlwinds. Along with the cemi Guama Guatauba, the herald, spirit of thunder-lightning, and his partner the cemi Guama Coatriskie, spirit…

Tau My Relatives In behalf of myself, my family and the whole Caney Indigenos
Spiritual Circle community I want to wish all of you a blessed
Autumnal Equinox this weekend.
This season represents a special stage in the ceremonial cycle of
the cemies as seen from the perspective of the Caney Spiritual
Circle. We believe that Yoka Hu, the male spirit of Energy and Life
has a Life-Cycle just like any living entity. We believe…

This image was suggested to me by my dear friend, Joanna Aviles-Soto. It is a chalk drawing (6 feet x 5 feet) and will be on display at the Kennedy Center until November. Then it will be "hosed down" to make room for another chalk drawing. Many people asked about the symbolism of the piece and there were "boricuas" who I didn't have to explain anything to. It was a long hot day but worth…
